2008 North East Amateur Tour
2008 year marks the 11th year for the North East Amateur Tour.
Introduction From Woodie
I don't have to tell anyone reading this that the winter of '07 & '08 will be remembered as the most depressing stretch of continuously horrid weather ever experienced. Absolutely dreadful, not a let up from early November right on thru the first 10 days of April. We all know that there is always the possibility that we could have such a nasty winter. More than likely though God usually graces us with a day or two of temps in the 40's, allowing us to grab the clubs and squeeze in a few holes during the shortish daylight hours at Donald Ross or Lakeside. Alas and praise be that finally the weather has rebounded once again and we avid golfers can enjoy a late afternoon or early evening getting in a few relaxing holes before dark.
As for the delay in getting the web site updated and the 2008 schedule posted sooner, we apologize but several factors entered into the formulation of the 2008 NEAT calendar.
Our 2008 tournament schedule is quite different from the inaugural season 10 years ago. Travel has been and will continue to be as issue as long as gas prices continue rising above the $ 3.50 per gallon range. Our schedule has been reduced to just 5 events all in Allen County, with the possibility of one more being added.
The NEAT has always been the innovator being ahead of the curve with different types of competitive but fun golf tournaments. From the Pro Am to the Mixed Team Championship the North East Amateur Tour has attempted to provide all serious golfers in Allen County another tournament venue in which to compete.
Keeping with that tradition another new fun event has now been finalized. The 2008 NEAT Kick-Off Party will be held on Wednesday May 7 from 5 pm until 9:00 pm at the new River City Links located in the River City Complex just south of Columbia Street on Tecumseh and North of Berry via Combs Street. All come and play Ft. Wayne's newest 18 hole all bent grass putting course situated right smack dab on the banks of the Maumee River. Once again the NEAT will conduct the Allen County Amateur Match Championship at Cedar Creek in late September with the launch of the 2008 tournament season at McMillen Park on May 26 th with the annual Golf Bawl 2 man team tournament.
